Jews Mourn Temple Destruction in Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem, Israel. 14th August 2016. Thousands of observant Jews, some having slept here the entire night, pray at the Western Wall on Tisha B'Av, the 9th of the Hebrew month of Av, mourning the destruction of the First Temple, built by King Solomon, at the hands of Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II in 587 BCE and the Second Temple in 70 CE by Roman legions under Titus. Tisha Be'Av is a day of fast, prayer, reflection and of reading the Book of Lamentations. Jews visit the last remnant of the Temple - The Western Wall, exhibiting symbols of mourning.
