Passover Preparations in Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem, Israel. 21st April, 2016. Ultra-Orthodox haredi boys watch as Jewish men dip dishes and eating utensils into boiling water for purification before Passover. An important ritual is the removal of hametz, any food product that contains leavened wheat, oat, barley, rye, or spelt products. The act is symbolic of the biblical exodus of the ancient Hebrews from slavery in Egypt to freedom, in which not having had time to wait for dough to rise before leaving Egypt, they journeyed into the desert with unleavened bread.
