Archaeology on Mt. Zion Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem, Israel. 8th August, 2018. Prof. DIETER VIEWEGER, Director General of the Augusta Victoria Campus, German Protestant Institute of Archaeology, stands by the grave of Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, (1853-1942), an English pioneer of systematic methodology in archaeology and preservation of artifacts. Under the patronage of DEI, German Protestant Institute of Archaeology, excavations are underway on Mt. Zion in the area of the Anglican Prussian Protestant Cemetery including the so called Essene Gate, focusing on the inside areas of the city walls and the settlement of ancient Jerusalem between the 8th century BC and 747 AD.
