Prison of Christ Reopens in Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem, Israel. 10th February, 2019. Sunday mass is conducted in the Chapel of the Syrian Christians, the Jacobites. The 'Prison of Christ', a small Greek Orthodox chapel inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where Jesus was traditionally incarcerated by Roman soldiers before his crucifixion, based on a 9th century Byzantine monk who referenced the site as “the guardroom where Christ was imprisoned with Barabbas”, was recently reopened after repairs over a period of several years due to a fire which caused major damage. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the site where Jesus was crucified, buried and where he was later resurrected in the Old City of Jerusalem.
