20110302 Parade of Flags Through Streets of Jaffa
The Tel Aviv district police allowed a right-wing march in the city of Jaffa today but limited participants to sixty, citing the potential for a counter-demonstration by resident Arabs. The decision was made after the marchers petitioned the Supreme Court against the police department's preliminary refusal to allow what the protesters call "A Parade of Flags".
Following similar parades in Silwan and Um El-Fahem, Parliament Member Michael Ben-Ari (Ichud Leumi Party) and extreme right-wing activists Itamar Ben-Gvir and Baruch Marzel lead the parade today through the streets of Jaffa surrounded by very tight police and border patrol security. Demonstrators carried signs and shouted slogans in favor of a Jewish Jaffa protesting a recent left-wing demonstration in the city in which Palestinian flags were raised.
