20110303 Jewish Day of Rage
Apparently not only Arab nations draw inspiration from the disturbances in Tunis and Egypt - right-winged religious Zionists also learn and implement their own "Day of Rage" in protest of claimed police brutality in the evacuation of the Gilad Farm (Nablus region), destruction of illegal structures there and use of rubber-coated-bullets against the settlers, earlier this week.
IDF soldier Shimon Veizman of the Kfir Brigade, a settler in the Gilad Farm, who's home was among those destroyed, assembled a press conference and declared he is going absent from military service. "I wanted to be a combat soldier and defend the country but the IDF sent forces to destroy my home and shoot my friends.I will not return to duty until I have rebuilt my home." IDF spokesman responded saying the IDF does not choose its missions and it expects its soldiers to differentiate between their duties and their political viewpoints. Veizman was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 days in military prison.
Demonstrators put "the writing on the wall" with slogans declaring a "price tag for the Gilad Farm" and "Rabbi Kahana was right". In the afternoon road blocks began at the Ginot Sacharov Intersection in an attempt to block traffic into Jerusalem and elsewhere around the country.
