20110626 1st Day of 6th Year for Gilad Shalit - Jerusalem
Demonstrating for Gilad Shalit, protesters outside the Government Quarter in Jerusalem called out "Enough! Enough! Enough! Five years are too much!" and "Gilad belongs to us all!". Protesters block the entry of ministers' vehicles into the Government Quarter and the only minister to stop, get out of his car and address the crowd in solidarity is Minister of Improvement of Government Services Michael Eitan (Likud).
In a press conference immediately following the demonstration Noam Shalit called PM Benyamin Netanyahu once again to do everything possible to release his son. Shalit complained it took the PM five whole years to declare a policy of worsening jailing conditions of Hammas terrorists in Israeli jails in order to put pressure on Hammas leaders to agree to an exchange. While these terrorists enjoy TV, cellphones and academic studies, Gilad Shalit is denied even Red Cross visits. Noam Shalit announced a new campaign in which past, senior, security officials will publicly declare their approval of a prisoner exchange for Gilad and the general public will show its support via SMS messages.
Gilad Shalit, born 28 August 1986, was abducted by Palestinian militants in a cross-border raid near the Gaza Strip on 25 June 2006 and is being held hostage by Hamas ever since.
