20110726 Working and Studying Youth prove social involvement - Jerusalem
Members of the Working and Studying Youth Movement protest as Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu delivers a statement at a press conference in the PM's Office detailing his plans to solve the housing crisis. Jerusalem, Israel. 26th July 2011.
While Benyamin Netanyahu details his plans to solve the housing crisis at a press conference in the Prime Minister's Office, youth of the Working and Studying Youth Movement stage a demonstration outside the office demanding 'welfare state' policy and the rescue of the Israeli middle-class. A wave of protest has recently, almost literally, flooded the country as thousands hit the streets protesting the soaring prices of housing, that have escalated in the last decade to levels unattainable by young, middle-class people. Housing protest is reinforced by demonstrations against the high cost-of-living in Israel as well as nationwide boycotts on products and sanctions by professional sectors including doctors.
"Working and Studying Youth, the largest and most varied of all the youth movements in Israel, was founded in 1924 on the soil of Eretz Yisrael by working young people, deprived and neglected, who organized themselves to defend their work and their rights." Demonstrators describe the PM's speech as pure demagoguery, declare his government has failed and call on the PM to resign!
