2012 - My Year in Photos
Photographically, it's been an extraordinary year!
I've gotten deeper into news-photo journalism and have produced over 180 photo essays dealing with anything from Operation Pillar of Defense and President Peres harvesting olives to Christmas trees at the Jaffa Gate, in Beersheba, Tel-Aviv, Netanya, the Egyptian border, The Negev, Kfar Qassem, Tira, Ashdod, Massda, Mi'ilya, Motza, Rishon LeZion, Ashkelon, and of course Jerusalem, Boston and New York http://ImagesOfMyThoughts.com/News). I've met hundreds of extraordinary people and documented their remarkable stories. My life has fortunately been touched forever by dozens of subjects, students, photographers, editors and clients. This is the place to thank you all for your support and encouragement!
“Photography is nothing – it’s life that interests me.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson
My new life of freelancing photo-journalism is rewarding, satisfying and fun and I love every minute of it!
My longtime perception of the relative un-importance of 'pro-standard' camera gear still holds. Ninety-five percent of my work continues to rely on the wonderful Fujifilm X100 with its fixed 23mm F/2 allowing me freedom, maneuverability, stealth and extraordinary image quality. The X100 has reminded me why I love photography in the first place. Somehow it takes me back to the basics of photography forcing me to better consider composition, exposure and the decisive moment. Rarely do I fall back to my Canon 5D, the old, original, 5D, with longer lens. A Canon G1-X has been added in 2012. It served me well in New York http://ImagesOfMyThoughts.com/Projects/NYC-Streets/) with its small size and versatile lens but does not really impress in performance. Of course I still get excited with news of new and interesting cameras. This year it was the Fujifilm XE-1 and the Olympus OM-D E-M5 but I've successfully held back so far, desperately trying to contradict my accountant who claims I should be treating my photography more as a business and less as a passionate hobby.
2013 is right around the corner. It holds the potential for many exciting things among them a 9-day workshop with Shot Viaggi Fotografici detailed here: http://ImagesOfMyThoughts.com/Workshops/Spring-2013-Photographers
I look forward to it!
So, thank you once again for your friendship, support and encouragement! I wish us all happiness, creativity and satisfaction in our photography, health and well being to us and our families!
