Caesarea, Israel. 8th February, 2018. What archaeologists consider a remarkable, rare, multicolored Roman period mosaic, is being uncovered in excavations in the Caesarea National Park. The 2nd - 3rd century CE mosaic, measuring 3.5 x 8 meters, bears an inscription in ancient Greek and features three male figures wearing togas. On top of the mosaic archaeologists have found a later, 1,500 year old Byzantine period, massive structure with marble columns, which scholars believe was part of an 'agora', a large public area for commerce and socializing.
