The Jerusalem University College, American Institute of Holy Land Studies, originally founded as Bishop Gobat's School in 1853 on Mount Zion, provides graduate and undergraduate studies of the Christian Scriptures. Samuel Gobat (1799 - 1879), was an Anglican missionary in Africa and the Protestant Bishop of Jerusalem from 1846 until his death.

Vieweger manages archaeological excavations underway on Mt. Zion in the area of the cemetery including the so called Essene Gate, focusing on the inside areas of the city walls and the settlement of ancient Jerusalem between the 8th century BC and 747 AD.
