Jerusalem, Israel. 11th October, 2018. African Community Society Manager, MOUSA QOUS, stands near an iron gate which serves as the entrance to the African community residential area. The gate is an artifact from the Ottoman Period in which the structures served as a prison and is still used today to protect residents when clashes break out in the area. The African Community Society is a non profitable Muslim NGO established by the African community members originally from Chad, Nigeria, Sudan and Suriname in Jerusalem in 1983. The society promotes culture in the Old City and empowers women and youth.
