Christmas Preparations in Fassouta, Israel
Fassouta, Israel. 10th December, 2018. A statue of Mar Elias, Saint Elijah, the Prophet Eliyahu, the village's patron saint, is decorated for Christmas in Fassouta. A village and a local council on the northwestern slopes of Mount Meron in the Northern District of Israel, Fassouta is situated just 2Km south of the Lebanese border. Visited by Illinois Senator Barack Obama while on a study tour in January 2006, the population of 3,400 are all Melkite Catholic, a division that split from the Greek Orthodox Church in 1724.
