Ortygia, also known as Citta Vecchia, is a small island which serves as the historical center of the city of Syracuse and a major tourist destination. It is connected by three bridges to mainland Sicily. With Sicily's fourteen percent unemployment rate, one of the highest in Italy, navigators of the economy look to tourism as a major source of income in the future throughout the island.
